As a graduate of San Jose State University (hence "SJSdude") I take great pride in seeing the Doobie Brothers, who were founded by San Jose State students and first played together a couple of blocks away from the main campus, inducted into the R&RHOF. The Doobies are now the fourth band with members that attended San Jose State to be inducted into the HOF, joining Fleetwood Mac, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and the Jefferson Airplane. Not a lot of colleges in the US can make the claim of having four bands in the HOF having attended their school.

I saw the Stray Cats at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz, CA in August of '82, shortly before they became well known in the US, a venue that only holds about 800. I'd been reading about them in Rolling Stone, and had bought their first UK release in the import section of our local Tower Records shop without actually have heard any of their songs. I dragged a couple of friends with me to see the show, which became, for each of us, one of the best live shows we ever saw. Their song "Rock This Town" debuted on the Billboard charts less than a month after this show.

I was listening to my 1996 mix tape in my car yesterday and I came across A Girl Like You by Edwin Collins. I couldn't help but notice the wonderful use of vibes in the song and it occurred to me that I couldn't recall any other songs with vibes, other than maybe Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye). Can you think of any others?

Hi Lorne. Could you please fix my user name. I had no trouble logging in aside from my usual 'user error' issues.

"Under My Thumb" - The Rolling Stones

"Moonlight, Feels Right" - Starbuck
