Poor Little Fool - Ricky Nelson
The Jordannaires sang background on many of Ricky's songs. Their vocals seemed to be the perfect complement to a great performance by an amazing singer on this tune.
Shoutout to the Jordanaires!
Elvis was very fond of them and stated words to the effect that "...if it wasn't for you guys there may not have been a me..."
Elvis wanted them to accompany him to Las Vegas for his engagements but they turned him down.
I had the pleasure of meeting the Jordanaires tenor singer, piano player & group manager, the late Gordon Stoker in Vegas about 25 years ago.
Funnily enough he (and I) were in the audience that night of an Elvis impersonator named Trent Carlini. Mr. Stoker was introduced from the stage & following the shows completion I made a point of waiting to shake his hand and say hello as he emerged from the small showroom.

Good entertainers with some memorable songs
My favourite was "When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman"
In watching clips of the band during their heyday I got the feeling that both Dennis and his partner-in-crime Ray Sawyer really enjoyed the "fruits of their labour" that came with being rock stars
Hello ladies...
| The Oldies Music Board » Stoned Love » March 20, 2026 10:06 am |
The 1970's Supremes hit "Stoned Love" has always been a favourite of mine
To this day I can't get enough of it
So today I was surprised to find out that the song comes with a mislabelled title!
The songs writer, Kenny Thomas gave his creation the title "Stone Love" meaning a love that is absolute and total.
Somewhere between the catalogue department & the pressing plant at Motown the letter "d" was added
It was a typo that caused a bit of a stir
Some radio stations where reluctant or outright refused to play it
And Merv Griffin cancelled an appearance by the Jean Terrell led Supremes because of it
I never knew all that until today

The only difference is these days he sits instead of standing while performing.
He still sounds great & that eight and-a-half minute CBS interview is fabulous
