The Only Artist In The Top 20 In The 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 10s & 20s

It's Michael Jackson and a lot of it has to do with his classic "Thriller," a Halloween staple. He's made the upper reaches of the Billboard Hot 100 in every decade for nearly 60 years with a series of repeat hits. Pretty amazing.

Michael Jackson has now placed a solo song in the Hot 100's top 20 in the 1970s, '80s, '90s, 2000s, '10s and '20s

But forget Christmas music. Halloween seems to be almost a guarantee that certain tunes will re-emerge from the dead year after year after year. The linked article above illustrates which ones they are.

And although it's not a solo recording, Mikey can be found dishing out Christmas favorites on The Jackson 5 Christmas album. Mind you it's not a popular seasonal favorite like Phil Spector's Christmas album or All I Want For Christmas Is You.

And going the other way with the Jackson 5, they first made the top 40 on Dec. 6, 1969 with I Want You Back. I'm not sure if it had made the top 20 by year-end, but I still think that this could be enough to add another decade to Michael's credit especially given that he was the lead vocalist on it.

I Want You Back:
- released: October 7, 1969
- first charted #90 Billboard Hot 100 on November 15, 1969
- charted #1 for one week beginning January 31, 1970
- charted #1 on Soul singles charts for four weeks (no dates)
Michael Jackson was 11 years young at the time.

charted #1 on Soul singles charts for four weeks (no dates)

Why "no dates"?
It was on January 10, 17, 24, 31, 1970

We're all using different sources for the info we're posting here. In my case, I had just looked the song up in my Whitburn Top 40 book. I was hoping that others here might be able to augment what I had posted, but I figured that even making the top 40 counted for something and that chances were that he'd made the top 20 before year-end. I appreciate the additional info from both of you.

Yeah, Lorne.  I used Whitburn's Billboard Book of Number One Hits (just one of many of his books) as well as Wikipedia and a few others.  Seems to be a few disparaging stats, consequently, I used the ranges as I discovered them.  As for the Soul charts, I was unable to locate solid dates; the only reference I found about the Soul charts was Wikipedia but the reference had no start date.  I guess I could have assumed the Soul start date was approximately near the date as the Hot 100.

I hadn't gone to Wikipedia, but I did wonder if that might be where you would have seen that. But just as I had thought it was likely that it made the top 20 before year-end but didn't want to guess, I think it was better that you just posted the info the way that you did. I like seeing as much participation here as possible, so a post like yours (or mine) is likely to lead to someone else posting the missing info.
