A Member Of The Cyrkle Wrote Two Of The Most Famous Ad Jingles

I saw this on my local radio board and couldn't resist noting it here. When the Cyrkle (of Red Rubber Ball and Turn Down Day fame) disbanded, one of its members went into the ad game. His name was Tom Dawes and he wound up writing two of the most famous ad jingles in the history of radio and TV.

One was "7-Up, the Uncola" and the other was the well-known, "Plop, Plop, Fizz, Fizz, Oh What A Relief It Is," for Alka Seltzer. He may have others to his name, but I'm not sure what they are. But those two are enough to guarantee his place both on the charts and on the air.

I love trivia like this and I'll be thinking of those two jingles the next time my local oldies station plays "Red Rubber Ball."

Turns out Thomas Dawes did, in fact, write some other memorable jingles during his lifetime, as pointed out in this obit from the L.A. Times. He passed away in 2007.
