The artist, who had huge hits with "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," "Killing Me Softly With His Song," "Feel Like Makin' Love" (and a lesser known effort, "Jesse") is now 85 and is suffering from ALS, aka Lou Gehrig's Disease. She's determined to still contribute, although her progressive illness has left her unable to sing. 

She's the subject of a new documentary that will get a brief theatrical run before debuting on PBS' American Masters in January.
