It's quite a find some 60 years later. But a schoolboy who was fooling around with a tape recorder back in 1963 managed to capture a Beatles concert just before the band hit it big. The quality isn't the best, but there's no questioning the historic value of the recording, even if it's hard to hear.
It was made at the Stowe Boarding School, which Paul McCartney once recalled was too posh for people like the lads from Liverpool to be able to attend. But they played a concert there and because it was early in their careers, there was no screaming from crazed teenaged girls to obscure the sound.
Quite a remarkable find, although whether we'll ever get to hear it is another question. The hope is today's production techniques can render the poor quality into something listenable. But honestly, to hear the Beatles on the cusp of their fame (their first album, Please Please Me, had just come out 2 weeks before) would be worth a little ear strain.

Some (short) parts of the Beatles tape can be heard here:
The recording is 27 minutes talking about the tape and its history and what will possibly be done with this unexpected discovery.
