Grammy-winning pianist and Philly Pops conductor Peter Nero dies at 89

He was probably best-known to many here (including myself) for his “Theme from `The Summer of ’42’”, which reached #21 in 1971.

Re: Grammy-winning pianist and Philly Pops conductor Peter Nero dies at 89

Several tracks from Peter Nero's early LP's were included in the AFRTS library. I had just started my volunteer status at our USAF base radio station (in far north Japan) and got at least one in every shift.  I found it interesting that they were well received by the young airmen and I received many requests to play them.  I did meet Peter Nero back in 1966 when he played at our concert hall in SLC, UT.  He was very easy to visit with.
