David Crosby Calls Woodstock 50 Organization 'Grubby'

In the aftermath of failed attempts to stage a 50th-anniversary edition of Woodstock, David Crosby revealed he backed out without making his decision public.
Promoter Michael Lang encountered a series of issues that eventually forced him to cancel plans to stage any kind of memorial event. By that time he’d gone through several variants of his original intentions, with changes including location, length and scale. The final version he attempted to put on would have been a free single-day event, but by that time almost all the big-name acts originally listed had dropped out.

I watched a pretty good Woodstock doc on Netflix and learned that the original fest almost didn't happen as well. Apparently the organizers were booted from the original site of Wallkill N.Y. because the residents, who didn't want a bunch of hippies in their town, took legal action to stop it, They had to scramble to find an alternative location, which turned out to be Max Yasgur's farm in Bethel. However, Michael Lang and co. were running out of time so they had to make the choice of building the stage or putting perimeter fencing around the event, so they had to go for the former. This is why, in effect, it became a free concert.

even if you had not been informed by various other sources, watching cnn's recent documentary about the original event would have enlightened you of the, specifically according to graham nash, apparent fact that he, stills, and young no longer communicate with david crosby. it would seem, by inference, that crosby has become something of a curmudgeonly jerk in later years...

regardless, in this instance, based on the evidence of what transpired, crosby's perception may well be correct.
