8 popular songs from the 1960s that are still awful now

I'm not sure I agree with all these choices. I was kind of fond of The Royal Guardsmen song, and I've never heard of "The Crusher." I'm pretty sure it never reached the radio playlists where I lived as a kid.

Also - the fact that most of these are novelty tunes speaks volumes.

I agree that criticizing songs that weren't meant to be serious songs in the first place is pretty silly.  Seven out of eight fit that category.  Only Puppy Love is fair game for criticism. And remember that we're talking 1960 for Puppy Love.  Put it in context.

While not a Paul Anka fan, I was willing to give Anka a pass because he was so young, but then I looked it up and saw that he was 19 at the time, not 14 or 15 as I thought.  I guess you could chalk it up to just one of those things.  Not everything we do measures up as the best we are capable of.  Heck, the great Carole King and Gerry Goffin, who wrote wonderful pop and rock and roll songs, occassionally  produced a clunker [He Hit Me (And It Felt Like A Kiss)].

If we're going to criticize Anka's music. I submit that Having My Baby is where we should start.

Amen! Absolutely the worst song ever, in my not-so humble opinion... Even worse than "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy, I've got love in my tummy"... Yuck.
