Frankly, they haven't been "Boys" for a very long time, but one of the biggest contributors to the California surf group is officially calling it quits. Bruce Johnston says in a statement he wants to be able to concentrate on making his own music and is officially leaving the band after more than six decades.
"As my major talent beyond singing is songwriting, now is the time to get serious again. In addition, I’m currently working on developing a speaking-engagement chapter of my career — inspired in part by Cary Grant, who long ago made a similar move after his movie career. With a ton of help designing what I speak about from John Stamos, I’ll be doing appearances and events of my own."
Johnston wrote some of the Beach Boys tunes, but may be best known for a song that Barry Manilow took to the top of the charts - "I Write The Songs." From now on, he's setting out to prove it.
