Beatles Abbey Road Back At #1 In U.K., Breaking World Record

It's taken 49 years, 252 days and a lot of hoopla about a 50th anniversary, but the Beatles' Abbey Road LP has set a Guinness World Record in the U.K. for longest time between an album sitting on top of the charts.

By the way, it never had an official music video, but it does now. To celebrate the new boxed set of Abbey Road, George Harrison's classic "Here Comes The Sun" has been released as a new music video.

Man, that was great!  It put a nostalgic tear or two in my eyes.

if abbey road had been released again today, who knows if it might have reached #1?  it hasn't been done. however, a box set containing the album as part of its package did recently become available.. i don't see how any correlative 'record' could therefore exist.

of course if the beatles had released everything in the box originally the result would obviously have been the same. too bad the concept didn't really exist in the rock world then.

In honor of what would have been his 79th birthday, Spin Magazine has reprinted a fascinating 1975 interview with John Lennon, which transports you to a very different time when he was back with Yoko Ono, his feelings about oldies, questions were still coming out about that longed-for Beatles reunion that never was and why he believed son Julian actually liked Paul better than him.
