The guy who wrote one of the biggest hits of the 60s remembers how it came together and how it impacted his career. Among the revelations - Ray Stevens dropped by during the recording, and was one of those doing the handclaps and why they had trouble getting radio stations to play it because The Archies didn't exist.

Mystery, this was the third release by the Archies and their first one "Bang-Shang-A-Lang" had made it to #9 in Cashbox so they were already a known recording act. They were on network TV so they were an established commodity. That was all you needed back then to get a decent shot on any Top 40 station.
