A pair of mid 1960's releases have always stood the test of time with me
Shadows of Knight recording of Gloria never gets old
And I can say the same about Little Girl by the Syndicate of Sound
I consider these releases 1 and 1A when it comes to preference
Released within a few months of each other Gloria topped out at number 10 on the the Billboard charts in '66
Little Girl reached number 8 -- so a virtual tie for chart position & that result mirrors my appreciation for both these songs.
I love 'em both
Do you have a clear favourite between the two? Enjoy hearing which one & why

I was in Los Angeles in May of '65 when it came out and both sides got plenty of air time. I refer to "Gloria" and "Baby, Please Don't Go" by Them (Van Morrison). That version also included the dreaded line "She come up to my room" which was not in the Shadows release. I prefer Them's original. In 1966 the Shadows of Knight reached #10 in BB so Them's version was re-released and reached #71.

I gotta give the edge to Little Girl by SOS.

This is a difficult one.
I'm going with Little Girl simply because of the novel approach. I thought it was pretty cool to "talk" a song, and the lead...talker...did a good job with emphasis and telling the story.

Sorry to report that the lead singer on Little Girl passed away about a year ago.
Don Baskin was 73 & died in his sleep at his California home
Mr. Baskin also co-wrote Little Girl with fellow Syndicate of Sound band mate Bob Gonzales

tough call, but i really prefer van morrison's "gloria". so, i'll give it to s.o.s. because, as far as i know, the song was unique to their band.
