'Tapestry' at 50: How Carole King 'bet on herself' to record a classic

It was an album that was on the Billboard Top LPs list for not just weeks or months, but years. And it still stands up today.

I have a great memory of Tapestry.  My family was on vacation at Niagara Falls when the album was hot.  With the roar of the falls in the background and a fine mist tickling my skin, I walked through a small shopping district with Tapestry  blaring out of speakers.  Hippies manned the shops.  Wow, I'd love to go back to that memory.
