BJ Thomas Suffering From Stage Four Lung Cancer

The hitmaking late 60s and 70s singer revealed his disturbing diagnosis on his Facebook page Wednesday. He claims he expects to make a full recovery, but stage four cancer is never a good thing.

Thomas had a string of great songs when he was flying high on the charts, including "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry," "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head," "Rock & Roll Lullaby" and the tune with perhaps one of the longest titles in Top 40 history, "Hey, Won't You Play Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song."

But I wonder how many remember his real chart debut, a 45 my brother bought when I was just a kid. It was credited to B.J. Thomas & The Triumphs in 1966 and was called "Billy & Sue," the story of a soldier in Vietnam and his cheating girlfriend back home. Still one of my favorites. He also had some success with gospel music and "Mighty Clouds of Joy" made the pop charts.

Another terrible bit of news from the gift of 2021 that just keeps on giving.
