It's unusual for a producer to get much attention here, but Tommy West was a name I'd been following for many years. He was the guy who, along with Terry Cashman, produced most of the big hit albums that "got a name" for Jim Croce before he perished in a tragic plane crash just as his career was hitting the big time.
Cashman & West had a few hits of their own, including the great "A Friend Is Dying" in the 70s, a song about New York City itself going through some very dark times.
West was 78.
