Listening to Steve Miller's "Book of Dreams" album (released in /May 1977, one of the songs, "Winter Time" got my attention. "Winter Time" was released as the B-side of "Swingtown."  Here are the opening lyrics to "Winter Time":
                         "All the leaves are brown (all the leaves are brown)
                        And the sky is gray (and the sky is gray)"
The melody sounds much like a song with similar lyrics as the above.  "Mamas & Papas California Dreamin'"
