The History of Cashbox Magazine

I found this to be of interest, and thought that others here might as well.

Re: The History of Cashbox Magazine

I worked at a couple of stations that used 'Cashbox' as their national chart source and I did lean a bit in that direction.  Of course I picked up the Whitburn Cashbox books when they came out.  The first time I ever saw a Billboard chart (it was that list of 30 Honor Roll hits) was in May of 1957 on Guam.  That planted a bug that never left me.  The two top songs (as I recall) were "Party Doll" and "Little Darling".  They still bring back the memories of high school, dances and the juke box at the base snack bar (My Dad was a Navy officer).

Good piece. One of my colleagues at the paper edition of Music Express magazine was Lenny Stoute, who is now the Editor-in-Chief at Cashbox. He's an exceptional writer and it's worth checking out Cashbox for his stuff alone.
