Why June 3rd Is Famed In (Hit) Song & Story

Today is the 3rd of June, and while it's not another sleepy, dusty delta day, it IS the date that Bobbie Gentry's "Ode To Billie Joe" took place. There aren't a lot of specific dates mentioned in hit records but with the song that became the #1 tune of 1967, it may be the most significant.

A few others - The Fourth of July, in Saturday In The Park by Chicago, and the 3rd of September, the day "my daddy died" in Papa Was A Rolling Stone from the Temptations. And doesn't Earth Wind & Fire's "September" reference Sept. 21st?

Anyway, Happy Ode To Billie Joe Day!

Happy Desiree Day the First as well (with the second day being tomorrow). Other songs mentioning specific dates include U2's Pride (In the Name of Love) (April 4), the Bee Gees' First of May, C.W. McCall's Convoy (sixth of June), and Bobby Goldsboro's Summer (The First Time) (last day of June).
