Great video. In John Oates (of Hall and Oates) book, Change of Seasons, John talks about how in 1987 after 20 years of touring and selling over 80 million records, he was broke thanks to the record companies. He and Darryl eventually managed to get their money back. It's a very interesting look into how record companies treated their artists.

I read "Motown: Music, Money, Sex and Power" by Gerald Posner (2005) an extremely comprehensive story of Berry Gordy's empire, Hitsville U.S.A. Wow!! He was very wealthy, in part because he swindled artists. Some would say, "...he was shrewd." Others weren't so kind when they described Mr. Gordy. That said, he gave many potential artists their first break - he definitely knew blooming talent. There are only a few singers, songwriters and bands who swore their allegiance right up until he sold out to MCA Records in 1988. Others swore but not their allegiance.
