The composer of the 1970 hit Mr. Bojangles - Jerry Jeff Walker has died at age 78.
Mr. Walker wrote & recorded the tune Mr. Bojangles in 1968 after a chance meeting with a street performer in New Orleans
But it was the 1970 cover version performed by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band that received world wide acclaim.
Mr. Walker lost his battle with throat cancer on Friday October 23
May he RIP

I've mentioned before that I appreciate threads here about artists that have passed, because I often learn a lot about them as a result. I really didn't know much about Walker myself beyond the fact that he had written and recorded Mr. Bojangles, and I didn't even know the story behind the song. So I found it interesting to read both of the postings about him here ... he was obviously a very talented musician and songwriter.
