PBS Chuck Berry Documentary Airing July 27th

It's a PBS show called "In Their Own Words," which I have to admit I've never heard of before but has apparently been running since 2015. On Tuesday, July 27th, it's schedule to feature Chuck Berry and his music, along with those who knew and worked with the rock pioneer.

It appears it's airing in most markets at 8 PM local time, but you never know with PBS, so if this interests you, you should probably check your station's line-up on the web. (Also check to see what other days it airs - PBS stations are notorious for showing it a few times in other dayparts.)

Here's how the network describes the hour-long show:

"Take a riveting ride on the Chuck Berry train exploring the life, the legend, the music, and the man who is regularly credited as the father of rock and roll. We will meet the family who loved him, the players who were there for the rise, and the stars who bow to his inspiration and credit him for their own success."

A very brief promo is available here.

The NPR station in St. Louis, Berry's hometown, did a feature on the show.

You can actually watch this online for free - at least for the moment - at the PBS site here. You'll either have to be in the U.S. or have a VPN to see it. It appears it will remain online until August 24, so if you're interested, check it out sooner than later. Total running time: 52:20.

If this doesn't work for you, (I'm on WNED Buffalo's site) try your local PBS affiliate online. They should have it up on theirs, depending on where you are.

actually, in many ways it is more detailed, certainly in regard to aspects the film skirted, or did not focus on in particular. the interviews with his wife and children are indeed revealing, for example. you really should watch this, robert.

Thanks Goph, I'll look for it.
