Chuck Berry - "Gun"

I compile a database of well-known and melodic instrumentals. I'm approaching 600.
I found "Gun" and "Instrumental" performed by Chuck Berry.
Do you know anyone who plays the accordion so great in them?

Re: Chuck Berry - "Gun"

I'd never heard of these recordings and wasn't even aware that Chuck Berry had recorded instrumentals, so this was of interest to me. I found the versions of these recordings that were released on his 1970 album Back Home via YouTube, and the instruments that I hear are just guitar, harmonica, drums, and on the second one piano. I'm not that knowledgeable when it comes to musical instrumentation, but because I have friends with a weekly online show where one of them plays accordion I do hear it (or really them, as he has three of them) on a regular basis. And so unless Berry has done other versions of Gun and Instrumental, I think that the instrumentation on them is limited to what I just mentioned. I looked up the album on Wikipedia, and that's also what is indicated there at

Re: Chuck Berry - "Gun"

I'm very sorry, Lorne. The question should have been correctly:
Do any of you know who plays the HARMONICA so well in them?
This was a typical example of how poor my English is ...)

No problem, mroldies. I did wonder if you might be referring to the harmonica on them, and so I figured that the Wikipedia info provided the info on that. Here's another site with more info about the recordings that Baldori played on with Berry.

Re: Chuck Berry - "Gun"

chuck might have brought somebody with him from down south, but you could probably begin by investigating the roster of harp players associated with chess records, circa. i realise i might be a decade off but i can imagine chuck going back to a quality harpist he was familiar with.

Re: Chuck Berry - "Gun"

According to the Wikipedia info about the harmonica player, Bob Baldori, he "started working with Chuck Berry in 1966 at Lake Lansing, Michigan and subsequently recorded two albums with Berry." There's some other interesting info about him at, including a link to his website where there are references to his work with Berry.
