Town of Collingwood votes to stop operating Elvis Festival

Elvis is leaving the municipal building. The Town of Collingwood will no longer operate the iconic Elvis Festival that has been taking place in the town since 1995. On Monday the town voted to discontinue municipal operation of the festival after 2019 and will look to transition the festival to a private operator.

if they don't find anyone to take it over (though i imagine they will), here's a very good alternative:

Re: Town of Collingwood votes to stop operating Elvis Festival

Elvis Festival began as an Elvis convention.   No gov't involvement.    Just a group of enthusiastic Elvis fans.     The Town saw it bringing people to motels & restaurants and stepped in and created the festival (as an aside, it is where I met the Rockin' Canuck and his spouse Rockin' Susan Canuck about twenty years ago)

The locals either loved it or hated it (when weather cooperated, residential streets were packed w. vehicles.     It has run downhill over the past 5+ years and some blame the bureaucrats.     Rock 'n roll by committee has never worked.

I doubt anyone will want to take it over.     All the goodwill it once had has been burnt off.
