A friend of mine alerted me to this record, which I'd never heard of before. It's by a group called The Escorts and in some ways, it seems like your typical "dip da-dip da-dip" doo wop tune that you've heard a thousand times before in the early days of rock.
But the record, titled "Gaudeamus," has one key difference that makes it more unusual than any other - the entire thing is recorded in ancient Latin.
There's not a word in English in the entire 2:29, and it definitely makes it harder to sing along to! The words date back to the 1200's but this version came out in 1962. Definitely not something you'll hear a lot on your local oldies station, but it is undeniably catchy!

Hmmm, definitely one of the earliest if not the strangest. According to this article, there may be the world's first recorded rock F-bomb embedded in the otherwise nearly unintelligible words around the :25 second mark. See what you think.
