His name was Sam Gooden and in an incredible career, he was the only member of the Curtis Mayfield-Jerry Butler outfit to stay with the group for its entire 60-year existence! Hits included "For Your Precious Love," "People Get Ready" and "Gypsy Woman," which would later resurface as a hit for Brian Hyland. 

He started with the group when he was only 19, and was less than a month away from his 88th birthday when he passed away on August 4th. That leaves only Jerry Butler, who is thankfully still with us at 83.
