His real name was Ray Hildebrand and he and Jill Jackson became famous as "Paul" & "Paula," hitting the charts with the smash "Hey Paula" in 1963.
"They initially dubbed themselves Ray & Jill, sensibly enough. But the name change became inevitable after they recorded Hildebrand’s composition “Hey Paula” and it began to take off. He had been inspired to write it by a friend whose fiancee’s name was Paula."

It may be old age playing tricks on my memory, but my station (KTEO, San Angelo, TX) played to initial local release of "Hey, Paula" and the artists were listed as 'Jill & Ray', not the reverse. I used to have a couple of singles by a solo Jill Jackson and they were on a major label (Reprise maybe?) and they were good stuff. Paul and Paula had a single out in the Fall of 1964 and we played it at KXLF in Butte, MT.

Your memory is good all the way around, Jim. I didn't know that "Hey Paula" was originally released as being by Jill and Ray, but here it is.
And Jill Jackson's releases were indeed on Reprise.
Finally, Paul and Paula released "No Other Baby" in October 1964, so that would fit with your station playing a new single by them at that time.
