On the previous Oldies Music Bulletin Board, I felt free to say things that were controversial, and didn't hesitate to get into vigorous debates with others. But when I became admin of this board, I felt it was best to generally avoid being overly controversial ... we don't have nearly as many contributors to this board as we did before, and I wanted to avoid doing anything that would lose people.
And so I've held back on posting about the very controversial Canadian Broadcasting Corporation investigation into Buffy Sainte-Marie's ethnicity, which is available at or at -- depending on whether you would prefer to read about it or watch it (I've done both).
I have my own opinions about all of this. However, rather than offer them here, I have wanted to find an Indigenous perspective that I felt would properly address this very complicated situation, and I saw one today that resonated with me (although unfortunately it has a few typos that misspell her surname as "Saint-Marie" rather than "Sainte-Marie"). You can read it at .

WOW!!! This CBC Investigation and the report are very controversial. Amazing what people might do for "fame." Although it appears there is not a finalization of guilt or innocence yet, simply the allegations are very very defaming.

I'm reminded of the controversy behind the band Redbone, who all claimed to be from Indian tribes. It was later revealed that they were actually just normal Mexican-Americans. Yet, I still love their music, and don't hold that gimmick against them. Buffy, however, has taken it too far for too long. Just my opinion.

Korla Pandit comes to mind.
