It has been a long, strange journey for Brian Wilson. First, his early fame with the Beach Boys and being forced to fire his own father. Then coming under the spell of a supposed "doctor" who controlled his life. And now, perhaps, his final battle - being placed under a conservatorship by a judge, following the death of his wife, Melinda.

The judge's reasons for his decision are very sad and almost certainly mean the 81-year-old Wilson's public life is all but over. 

Judge Gus T. May ruled there was evidence Wilson was suffering from a “major neurocognitive disorder" and says he can no longer look after himself. 

“I find from clear and convincing evidence that a conservatorship of the person is necessary,” May said at the brief hearing. The judge said that evidence shows that Wilson consents to the arrangement and lacks the capacity to make health care decisions.

Another hero from our youth who made so much incredible music, yet will not be going out on a high note.
