Once in a while you come across an auction of rock memorabilia that is so extensive, it's fun to just look around at the pricey exhibits. But window shopping (or depending on your OS, Windows shopping) is cheap and sometimes you find some pretty interesting stuff.
Welcome to Julien's Auctions in New York City, which between May 29th & 30th is offering some unbelievable bits of rock and roll history. The most expensive one I found looking around currently has a bid of over $1.2 million. It's the acoustic guitar John Lennon used to compose "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away." It was estimated to be worth around $800,000, but as of this post, has a bid of an incredible $1.250,000! At that price, you've got to hide your wallet away.
Another huge attraction is the guitar Randy Bachman used to play the iconic opening riff on The Guess Who's "American Woman." In this story, Bachman talks about that guitar, how it came into his possession and where that famous intro came from.
There are hundreds of other items up for grabs, including:
-Drumsticks and a drumhead signed by one time Beatle Pete Best ($600)
-A gold record for Hey Jude ($5,000)
-A lock of Elvis Presley's hair ($1,000)
-A Fender Stratocaster Guitar used by both Bob Dylan and Robbie Robertson ($400,000)
-The original handwritten lyrics from John Sebastian's Lovin' Spoonful hits like "Daydream" and "Summer In The City," (Various prices)
And a whole lot more from the likes of Jerry Garcia, Jimi Hendrix, Crosby Stills And Nash, The Rolling Stones and others, than you'll probably have time to look at. If you're willing to go down that rabbit hole of expensive nostalgia (and maybe even bid on some of the cheaper stuff) you can find the entire list, with pictures, prices and descriptions, here.
