Johnny Cash's Statue now in the Capital Visitor's Center

A great memorial to Johnny Cash, an iconic statue of Cash, was unveiled today in the United States Capitol Visitors Center.
A fitting tribute to The Man In Black!!

Some say he was country - I say, "No, he was Johnny Cash."  He touched on and inspired other artists from nearly every music genre.  But his final album, American IV: The Man Comes Around, includes IMHO, a song which epitomizes his far-reaching, fascinating breadth of genres: Hurt.
Hurt is a song written by Trent Rezner, singer/songwriter with hard core American industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails The song includes references to self-harm and heroin addiction, although the overall meaning of the song is disputed.  The song received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rock Song in 1996.

Fast forward six years to 2002, when Johnny Cash covered the song, Hurt, accompanied by an evocative music video. The music video, capturing the essence of the life of Johnny Cash, is considered one of the greatest of all time by several critics.  Though there are scenes in the video which show Johnny with his custom black Martin D1 acoustic in his hands, he did not play it.  The songwriter, Trent Reznor, praised Cash's interpretation of his song for its "sincerity and meaning", going so far as to say, "That song isn't mine anymore."  Reznor's comment was complimentary.  Johnny Cash passed away just months after his recording of this song – many call this his last great hurrah!!
