The following article is a very nice tribute to Lenny Welch, and has some significant info about him that I didn't know. But one thing that it doesn't mention is that Welch was the first to record a slowed-down version of "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do", which Neil Sedaka came up with for him after he'd asked Sedaka if he had any songs that would suit his style. It reached #34 on Billboard, and then served as the basis for Sedaka's 1975 version of the song.

Good grief! Thanks Lorne. I would likely have skipped through my life of music without having known about Lenny Welch's cover of "Breaking Up." I listened to it and it certainly captures true R&B Easy Listening greatness. I have listened to "Since I Fell For You" which is a super song but Breaking Up is nearly an equal.

I was doing my DJ thing in the Cleveland market when Lenny's version of "Breaking Up...." hit the air waves and it got a lot of play where I was. There was a lot of Love for Lenny when he was part of the great "Doo Wop" revival on PBS back in 1999-2001. "Since I Fell For You" is truly one of the classics of the 1960's and I enjoy hearing it as much today as I did playing it on the radio back then.

Among the top songs on my "It Should Have Been A Hit" list is I Was There by Lenny Welch.
So smooth.
