Many Hits!

I don't think he's been mentioned on the board or if he was, I didn't see it.  His music may not be what we usually talk about but his impact on the LP' charts was significant.  From 1958 to 1962 he had 18 chart LP's, 13 made it to the Top 10, and 3 reached #1.  11 of them were certified "Gold". He also managed to land 12 singles on the 'Hot 100" in the 1950's including one that spent 6 weeks at #1.
The holder of this impressive history is the renown Mitch Miller!  In my garage sale adventures I managed to acquire some of his CDs that added up to about 70 tracks.  Much to my surprise, I could "sing along" with about half of them and only about 10 were unfamiliar.  As you probably guessed, his #1 single was "The Yellow Rose Of Texas" back in the summer of 1955.  He also was a force behind the scene with the many stars that recorded for the "Columbia" label.back then.

Re: Many Hits!

I saw Tommy Roe in concert several times over the years and when he was getting the audience to sing along to Sweet Pea he usually made a reference to Mitch Miller.

In the video below (just past the 2:00 mark) you will see Tommy acknowledge Mitch Miller.

Re: Many Hits!

This is a classic misheard lyric, but I used to think in my first listenings to "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen where they sing "Bismillah!", I swore they were singing "Mitch Miller!" In fact, it still sounds that way everytime I hear it, even though I know better now.
