Coward of the County - Rogers
Everyone considered him the coward of the county
He'd never stood one single time to prove the county wrong
His mama named him Tommy, but folks just called him Yellow
But something always told me, they were reading Tommy wrong
Are we limited to people?
Hound Dog - Elvis Presley
Well, they said you was high-classed
Well, that was just a lie
You ain't nothin' but a hound dog
Cryin' all the time
Well, you ain't never caught a rabbit
And you ain't no friend of mine

A Little Bitty Tear - Burl Ives
A little bitty tear let me down
Spoiled my act as a clown
I had it made up not make a frown
But a little bitty tear let me down

You’re the Devil in Disguise - Elvis Presley
You look like an angel (look like an angel)
Walk like an angel (walk like an angel)
Talk like an angel
But I got wise
You're the devil in disguise
Poison Ivy - The Coasters
She comes on like a rose,
But everybody knows,
She'll get you in dutch.
You can look but you better not touch!
She's pretty as a daisy,
But look out man, she's crazy!

All I have is the words “wee ooh” repeated throughout the song. It‘s been bothering me since I woke up yesterday morning.

Bobbie Gentry has never said what was thrown off the bridge, but she insists that it isn't important.”
Over the years I’ve concluded she doesn’t know. She just put the line in to create mystery like “The Lady, or the Tiger?”
The only thing I ever came up with was an engagement ring, If there had been any relationship between her and Billie Joe, the family would have know something about it. Billie Joe who “never had a lick of sense”, proposed out of the blue. She might have answered she hadn’t thought much about such things and wasn’t ready to make those kinds of decisions. Being obsessed with her, Billie Joe was devastated and threw the ring into the river. This leaves here feeling responsible for his death.

The Oldies Music Board » Remembering The Other Day The Music Died » March 8, 2025 4:00 pm |
I remember it well. That Memorial Hall is where my high school graduation was held. Wyandotte class of ’65 was way too big to hold the ceremony at the school. I’ve also been to a couple of wresting matches at Memorial Hall in my preteen years and some dances as a teenager. I never heard that Soldiers and Sailors part until I read about Patsy Cline on Wikipedia.
Later in the article linked above it refers to the building as Memorial Auditorium. I think that confusion comes because across the state line in Kansas City, Missouri is Municipal Auditorium. It’s about a 3 mile drive between the two and you will pass through that part of KCKS that appears in the Truman Capote movie “In Cold Blood”. Alternatively, you could take the 2 tenths mile longer route across James St. past Asner Iron and Metal, the family business where I met Ed Asner long before he was Lou Grant.

I see Paul Mauriat’s Love is Blue got mentioned a few times. I also liked it for a while but now hearing just the first few notes reminds me of Claudine Longet and I find it hard to listen.
I’ll also add Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs - Foggy Mountain Breakdown to the list.

What are some of the songs that you would consider to be "guilty pleasures" - songs that you are somewhat embarrassed to admit that you like?
Here are three of mine:
Calcutta - Lawrence Welk
Is there any person or show more unhip than Lawrence Welk? If you are in any doubt, check the video, especially the audience dancing. And yet I continue to enjoy this song. Maybe it's because it brings back childhood memories of my parents watching LW faithfully every Saturday evening. And with only one TV in the house and few channel/network choices, it was join them or don't watch TV at all.
Mr. Custer - Larry Verne
In this age of political correctness, it's uncomfortable to say you like Mr. Custer. From the war-whoops at the beginning, to phrases such as "there's a redskin awaitin' out there, just fixin' to take my hair" and "they're runnin' around like a bunch of wild Indians", there's no way this song would ever be recorded today.
And yet it brings a smile to my face every time I hear it. Kind of like being told a joke in poor taste but you laugh anyway.
Sugar, Sugar - The Archies
I hate bubble gum music with a passion. Sugar, Sugar is the one exception. I don't shut this song off when I hear it. Maybe it's because I'm an Andy Kim fan and I've seen him perform it live many times. Or maybe it's because whenever it comes on the car radio, I catch my wife immediately singing along.
I recently listed Calcutta by Lawrence Welk in the What Are Your All-Time Top Ten Instumentals? (Or Top 5 / Or Top 3) thread and Mr. Custer by Larry Verne in the Songs About (Or Inspired By) Real People thread.
How about Chick-a-boom (Don't Ya Jes' Love It) by Daddy Dewdrop.
I ain’t embarrassed.

You were on my hate list for about two hours. The song sounded SO familiar but I’d never heard it before. Finally figure it out.

Thx aflem. Only having the Top 10 made the decision-making process difficult, at best, BUT you helped fill out several that I would have like to have added, including the three Theme songs.
I know the feeling. 5 on his list were on mine before I cut it down and I had Let There Be Drums by Sandy Nelson rather than Teen Beat.
Before I ripped everything to mp3, I had 2 of the towers below but taller. One side of one was all instrumental only CDs, mostly Bill Black Combo, Ace Cannon and Boots Randolph but Magic Organ, Jo Ann Castle, Lawrence Welk and Myron Floren were well represented too along with many, many others.
