Interesting that you picked up on punk. The Cars Just What i Needed bsasically steals the intro. Also the lyrics of Yummy Yummy Yummy are interesting. Ooh you're such a sweet thing, good enough to eat thing. In case you think that is innocent, take Chewy Chewy. Do it to me, Chewy, chew me out of my mind.

I haven't listened to the radio for music in 20 years due to MP3 players. I hosted karaoke so I tired of songs like
American Pie, Paradise By The Dashboard Lights, I Will Survive, Sweet Caroline. There are also some very slow songs I hate like The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald. Hate rap. Also do not care for many long rock cutsOutside of maybe one or two songs not a fan of Pink Floyd, Rush, ELP, Yes, Kansas, Styx.

Agree though to me she adds to the record. I prefer it over the Rolling Stones version. I also hear a lot of crackling guitar noise as if Chuck blew a speaker.

Jaguars version is amazing. The Frank Sinatra version has become a well known standard.
The Oldies Music Board » Groups That Supposedly Sounded Like The Beatles » August 7, 2021 9:27 am |
Emitt Rhodes sounded like McCartney solo. I thought the Who on The Kids Are Alright were very Beatlesque. From my new wave era days, Squeeze sounded very Beatlesque.

The Oldies Music Board » When Famous Groups Perform Without The Original Members » July 14, 2021 9:24 am |
Funny or sad that somebody mentioned Herman's Hermits without Peter Noone. I went to an oldies concert with the Turtles, Grass Roots and others. Everybody had recognizable original lead singers. I can tell you that I could have gotten up from the audience and easily sounded more like Noone than the replacement. In a different concert, I saw the Box Tops without Alex Chilton. Also horrible. I once saw the Angels in an oldies concert. They were not even born when the real Angels had hits. All this is total false advertising and should not be allowed.
The Oldies Music Board » Sound-A-Like Artists Sometimes Plague The Originals » July 3, 2021 9:20 am |
Laguna overshadowed Orlando which did not sit well with Tony. At the end Laguna copies the falsetto from Save It For Me.
The Oldies Music Board » Sound-A-Like Artists Sometimes Plague The Originals » July 2, 2021 9:21 am |
It May Be Winter Outside by Felice Taylor sounds like the Supremes but it did not sell enough to scuttle the Supremes. On Make Believe by Wind, the vocals are Tony Orlando with some other guy doing the falsetto. Tony hates the record as he is outshined.
The Oldies Music Board » Sound-A-Like Artists Sometimes Plague The Originals » June 24, 2021 9:19 am |
Terry Stafford? What about Ral Donner who like Stafford recorded an actual Elvis album cut called The Girl Of My Best Friend. Donner had a few other hits and even narrated a This Is Elvis documentary movie. Of course he didn't plague the original. Joe Barry had a hit called I'm A Fool To Care which was a Fats Domino soundalike that did as well as most Fats recordings of that year. I always thought that A Horse Witrh No Name sounded like Neil Young whose Heart Of Gold charted at the same time. Check out It May Be Winter Outside by Felice Taylor. Supremes soundalike.
The Oldies Music Board » Stories Behind The Greatest Songs Of 1970 & 1971 » June 13, 2021 9:45 am |
Due to my hosting karaoke , I know and like some 90s and beyond tunes. Most of them , I consider average and not something I would voluntarily listen to. Favorite artists are Red Hot Chili Peppers, Train and Black Keys which fit in with classic rock. On occasion a song with a retro feel becomes a fave.

All his hit recordings were good. Faves are I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry, The Eyes Of A New York Woman and Rock And Roll Lullabye.

My belief that in addition to TV themes , they performed on numerous 60s era commercials. In addition Tommy was part of Happy Kyne & the Mirth Makers who were the band on Fernwood/America Tonight with Martin Mull and Fred Willard.
The Oldies Music Board » Tainted Love » May 21, 2021 9:15 am |
Definitely. Good Thing by FYC follows it rhythmically. Tainted Love was part of that Northern Soul that became popular in England years later. Gloria married Marc Bolan of T Rex and I think was in the car with him when he passed away.
The Oldies Music Board » Was This The Greatest Year For Rock Music? » May 16, 2021 9:37 am |
There are singer-songwriter albums listed here. A couple of rockers. To my ears, the greatest years for music are 1964-1970. Hard to pick one as I loved the great majority of pop hits of that era. The classic rock from 1967-1970 with a more bluesy rock feel were more pleasing to my ears. Now I notice they say rock music. Just as one may not consider the 4 Seasons or Jay & the Americans [who I love] to be rock, one may not consider Joni Mitchell, James Taylor or Carole King to be rock.

I'm a big Tommy James & the Shondells fan. They made party records like Hanky Panky and Mony Mony. they had that click guitar sound with I Think We're alone Now and Mirage. They made psychedelic sounding singles like Crimson And Clover and Sweet Cherry wine. Crystal blue Persuation fit right in with the Woodstock generation. TJ & co. were invited to play there but turned it down. I think the name of the band which was passe by the time they reached popularity, also cost them dearly. By the way, Chubby Checker was the first rock and roll artist, I ever heard of. He was one of the dominant early 60s faces of rock and roll and recorded classic party records.
