The Oldies Music Board » Is there any octogenarian from Europe here? » April 19, 2025 6:12 pm |
I would like to know who had the idea to use "Doodletown Fifers" as the opening tune of R. Luxembourg TOP 20 (30).
And also when did it happen for the first time.
Please, can you help me get this information?
Half of Europe listened to this show, but I couldn't find any mention of the history of this opening tune anywhere on the internet.

I'm looking for the Eddy Manson Orchestra recording "Boy On A Carousel".
It is from 1958, on the LPs "The Fi Is Hi" and "Harmonicas Wild". Is it possible to hear it somewhere on the internet?

I must add that the musical language term that I wanted to find in English does not only refer to the editing of already taken compositions.
That way of playing (musical addition) occurs in many compositions, for example in swing.
In that case, the musician says - I don't play the main melody, I play supplements (?), set-offs (?) auxiliary tones (?)...
In Czech, it is named in the plural "přiznávky".
As if a musician wants to say with his instrument - yes, yes, that's it, now it has the right musical flair.
I also thought that it could be "embellishment tones" or "embellishments".

Dear Lorne,
thank you for your evaluation, that I expressed myself clearly. It is important for me that others understand what I am asking.
The Oldies Music Board » Something mainly for musicians » August 6, 2024 10:43 am |
There are two options, I don't know which is valid.
Either there is no musician here, or the English language has no name for it.
But there is one more possibility - that I have expressed myself incorrectly and you do not understand what I am asking...

This is my question:
Bert Kaempfert added additional trombone sounds (tones) to Herb Alpert's recording in his version of the "Mexican Shuffle". Listen to my two audio samples.
In the Czech language we call it something like "musical yes-yes support." Maybe "infills" or "colouration" probably best describes what I mean.
Is there a special name for these tones in English?
The Oldies Music Board » Musical Preferences In My Senior Years » July 19, 2024 4:20 pm |
Jim,
Kaempfert? He is simply ambrosial. That's my taste.
"The Bass Walks", "Skokiaan", "Ole, O'Cangaceiro (The Bandit)", "Mexican Shuffle", "Dreaming The Blues",
"Blue Midnight",...
And do you know "Ole, O'Cangaceiro" by Bob Powels and Werner Müller Orchestra?

I do not have this album and it is not available on the Internet. Can anyone verify this by listening?

I got a tip that it was probably George Goodman, who sang in Europe. So America probably won't know him...

The photo is said to be from the 1960s. It's from the Radio Free Europe studio.

I have a book called "The Great Song Thesaurus".
Many songs about birds are mentioned in it. I can't even write them all. I will mention only a few:
(There'll Be Blue Birds Over) The White Cliffs Of Dover
When The Birds In Georgia Sing Of Tennessee
Two Little Bluebirds
Shady Lady Bird
Let's All Sing Like The Birdies Sing
She Was One Of The Early Birds

Does anyone know the answer to my two questions?
1. Did Elvis Presley record the song "(We're Gonna) Rock Around the Clock"? Did RCA ever release it on vinyl or CD?
2. And the same question about the song "Only You (And You Alone)".
Did Elvis Presley ever record it? Did RCA ever release it on vinyl or CD?

Am I wrong or am I right?
The "Secondhandsongs" website lists Bing Crosby as the performer of that song on the third line in chronological order.
But I think Bob Crosby should be there. His recording scored in Billboard (Most-Played In Juke Boxes) already on February 16, 1946.
Bing Crosby's recording should be listed only after it.
I also noticed this:
Bing Crosby's recording sample on the "Secondhandsongs"
(youtube with green background) does not match the actual music sample from V-Disc 646.
(listen at 3:38 onwards)
The Oldies Music Board » What to play at the very end? » December 27, 2023 5:24 am |
I wonder what an oldies DJ (oldies presenter) should play as the last song when he retires after many years of working
in a radio station...
"A Touch Of Velvet - A Sting Of Brass"?
"Sleepy Shores"?
"River Deep-Mountain High"?
Or simply "Roll Over Beethoven"?
Do you have any interesting tips?
