Thanks for bringing the Outsiders up.  I recall these follow ups, really liked "Girl in Love".  Was "Respectable" a cover?  My memory is getting hazy.  It was quite a while ago.

Even though it was not at the end of his career, Rodger Kay at WDJO Cincinnati played Ricky Nelson's "That's All" every Sunday afternoon at the end of his show.  This would have been sometime around 2008-2013 or so maybe

And a very merry Christmas to you and all!  I heard "A Not So Merry Christmas" on an oldies station out of Cincinnati several years ago and was stunned..  Bobby Vee was one of my favorite artists in 1960-62. I grew up in Chicago and listened to WLS and NEVER heard any Bobby Vee Christmas songs.  "A Not So Merry" now ranks up with my favorite Christmas tunes.  I'll be loading  up the CD player this evening with Spector, Vee and the Beach Boys, as well as my other favorite compilations.

Apologies for being so late to the party.  Hope y'all had a very Merry Christmas!
I'm pretty much stuck in the late fifties and early sixties:
1)  Jingle Bell Rock - Bobby Helms
2)  Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree - Brenda Lee
3) A Not So Merry Christmas - Bobby Vee

Shep and the Limelights "Daddy's Home".  At the end of the song, Shep sings "I'm not a thousand miles away".  This was a dig at his original group, the Heartbeats, and their song "A Thousand Miles Away".

The lyrics for House of Blue  Lights contain the phrases:
There's fryers and broilers and Detroit barbecue ribs
But the treat of the treats

Is when they serve you all those fine eight beats
But I always heard the last three words as: FINE AGED BEEF.
You can imagine what my favorite protein is....

Lorne, I like the feature on this board, allowing us to "Subscribe to this topic".  If an obit is posted on this thread, I always get an email notifying me.  It may have been present on the old board, but I did not notice. Maybe I just have a little more time now to participate.  Thanks for the convenience.

We spent the weekend for our summer Mardi Gras Krewe event in the Quarter.  Ran into many attendees of the Dr. John memorial service which was held earlier.  What a celebration of life!  Walked past Cosimo Matassa's Studio.  So much history there!  I read the article this morning of Dave Bartholomew's passing.  I;m sure there will be.another large acknowledgement of one of the great musical forces of the era.  The article is in:  theadvocate.com  I'll be able to post links soon.

I used to check the old board daily, mainly the daily calendar, but always looked at the various topics and posts, very rarely contributing.  Thanks Lorne for creating this site!  I'll try to comment more in the future.

I don't recall my first 45 purchase, but remember my first LP in late 1963 or 1964 .  It was an oldies compilation which included Marv Johnson's "You've Got What It Takes", and I think the Demensions "Over the Rainbow"  I almost bought the WLS oldies compilation instead, which may have had the "Silver Dollar Survey" in it's title.  It was a long time ago!

I had heard this about Brook and Dinah as well.  However, it is still is one of my favorites.  Dick & Dee Dee were also high on my personal list.

I began paying attention and listening to Top 40 radio in late '59.  I heard Santo & Johnny's "Tear Drop" first, and then  "Sleep Walk" as a featured "Oldie" on WLS Chicago probably in the summer of 1960.  Always preferred "Tear Drop".  I'd been exposed to Rock & Roll much earlier, have a sister who is seven years older than me.

The Four Tops first release (hit) was "I Can't Help Myself", followed up by "It's the Same Old Song".  Don't know if the title was referencing the melody or not, but remember it being mentioned by either Art Roberts or Larry Lujack on WLS.  It was a long time ago!

Really like "Ain't Gonna Lie" much more than "98.6".  Did not realize it was released first.

I meant to mention a while back, but there is an oldies station in Cincinnati, WDJO, which offers pre-sale tickets to oldies concerts in the area.  Looks like The Righteous Brothers (at least one of them) and whoever is performing as the Temptations is appearing on July 26.

We saw Jimmy Clanton perform in his alma mater, Baton Rouge High Auditorium, what he professed to be his final concert, on May 20, 2017.  He was the only performer however, and one could interpret that it was final performance as a solo concert.  At least that was what I thought at the time.  I'm glad to see he is still performing, I'm pretty sure he is still working in the studio. We enjoyed meeting and conversing with him five and a half years earlier at an oldies concert at LSU.  He actually remembered the occasion, as we watched the SEC Championship game in the Student Union Lobby.  Such a genuine person.
