I really liked "Black Land Farmer", and often wondered why he didn't produce more songs.

Wonderland By Night - Bert Kaempfert
Cherry Pink & Apple Blossom White - Perez Prado
Stranger On The Shore - Pete Fountain
Swingin Shepherd Blues - Moe Koffman
Last Date - Floyd Cramer

Cary mentioned "Comin' In The Back Door" by the Baja Marimba Band.. It was my sign-on instrumental when I worked for CHAK in the early 70s.  I'd time it so that last note hit top of the hour news from the national network.

The last remaining member of "The Band" has passed away at age 87.  I've followed Garth's HUGE influence on The Band since he first appeared as a member of The Hawks at the Summer Gardens in Port Dover in 1962(?). Am currently reading "This Wheel's On Fire" with Levon Helm.  Levon's admiration for Garth was immeasurable. Garth's mastery of that Lowrey organ, not to mention his saxophone, accordion and various other instruments were a huge part of The Band's success.

I've never been much of a surfing nor hot-rod type music fan, but I can generally tolerate it... In fact, I actually kinda like "Help Me Rhonda", however "Round, round, I get a-round" makes me dive for the channel changer.

As I understand it, Mr Moore and Mr Prater were estranged for several years after their big hit days... Perhaps now, they'll see fit to "make up" on the other side of the pearly gates.

Harvey is very, very good, but I still prefer George Oliver's version with The Mandala. Saw them perform it in Brantford way back when... Great show & great performer.

Leave it to Willie Nelson to come up with an absolute zinger... from Red Headed Stranger, he sang "You can't hang a man for killing a woman who's trying to steal your horse."

I could be mistaken, but it seems to me we did this several years ago, and I thought it might be interesting to re-visit the subject.  That being: What do you feel is the single most (your own adjective - beautiful, funny, horrifying, intelligent, etc) single lyric line... not a verse nor a title, but simply ONE single line, or sentence?

I can think of several contenders, but my favorite will always be "A candy-colored clown they call the sandman tiptoes to my room every night, just to sprinkle stardust and to whisper "Go to sleep, everything is alright".

If that isn't a beautiful piece of poetry, I don't know what is.

I play "Music Wordle" pretty-much every day, and find that in most cases, perhaps 80%, I'll get the artist/title with the first sound clip clue, BUT, if I don't get it on that first clip, chances are, I won't get it at all. The second, third, fourth clues just don't help.

Just wondering if others here, who play Wordle experience the same thing.

Cheers from Cape Breton Island.

Not a pop song, but the absolute ultimate male-chauvenest-pig song has to be "Put Another Log On The Fire". by Waylon Jennings, Tompall Glasser, and others. As you can imagine, it gets quite a reaction when I sing it at karaoke.

I've been listening, and watching a lot of Clarence Bekker vocals lately... especially those he's done with the Playing For Change organization... His "A Change Is Gonna Come" is, dare I say it, absolutely mind-blowing... perhaps even better than the original. I'd always thought Richard Manuel's version of Dylan's "I Shall Be Released" couldn't get any better, but Bekker made me re-think that as well.  What an amazing voice!

I seem to recall somewhere that the harmonica intro wasn't actually planned, and that Delbert just happened to be in the studio when Bruce cut the track, and added the intro as an ad-libbed afterthought. Can anyone confirm that?  If it is in fact true, it was a stroke of luck for everyone involved. That intro was a huge contribution to the track's success.

If you haven't watched the video of Jerry Lee, his cousin Mickey Gilley, and Charlie Rich on those three grand pianos pumping out a medley of songs, you might want to check it out. All three are gone now, but I thank God we still have their music and videos to remember them by.

To be perfectly honest, I didn't dislike it, but I was not a particular fan of his "Whole Lotta Shakin" stuff... BUT I absolutely loved, loved, loved his country tracks. I rank him right up there with country greats like Merle Haggard and George Jones. He was every bit their equal. And nobody, NO BODY could pound the pianner like the ole killer. R.I.P. Jerry Lee, and thank you, thank you for the music.

I'm in the process of packing up most of my essential possessions,.. selling off other "stuff" through yard sales... and donating the rest to the Salvation Army, in preparation to relocate from Ontario to Nova Scotia.

Yesterday, I came across a box with an old Sony reel-to-reel recorder and about 60 seven-inch reels of tape... air-checks from my days with CBC Radio back in the early seventies... literally fifty years ago.

I won't be able to listen to them any time soon, but I'm sure they'll provide some interesting memories during those cold winter snow-bound nights in Nova Scotia.
