That's the very first I'm ever hearing of Summertime Blues being a B side. It seems that in all trade magazines, from the very beginning, the label was promoting Summertime Blues. The other side also completely failed to chart at all on any regional radio surveys, meaning from day one it was not the side getting airplay.

Back in the old days, I would exchange season's greetings emails with Lorne, OldiesFan John, Smoothe Melody, and our late friend Kate Goldfield. I think Lorne was the only one to respond in the last few years so I kind of gave up the tradition after having a few glum Christmas seasons. This year has been really hard, in particular, after losing three close music friends in the span of about two months, though only Ronnie Allen would have been known around this board.

My wife has been playing a lot of Christmas music by Ronnie Milsap and also by Pentatonix recently though.

The thing I don't get is, after her last David Letterman Show appearance, she said she'd never perform Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) on television again, but has done so several times since then. It did kind of make me lose some respect for her.

I'd still like to find the Canadian 78 rpm of this record. It's quite rare.

The oldies board's late friend Kate Goldfield used to call me the grim reaper of oldies artists. Having lost too many friends, family, and favorite artists over the years, I've kind of slowed down with that... at least on here. I still report them as I see them, on the RIP thread on the 45cat website.

My last conversation with Ronnie was a phone call from him around two years ago after a mutual friend of ours took his own life. I hate phone calls with a passion, but having never spoken to Ronnie on the phone previously, I felt it was an important call to take. How he got my cell phone number, I'll never know. After I learned of Ronnie's passing, I dug out his 45 that he made in 1961, called Flip Over You, and gave it a spin.

One thing I was told soon after finding out about Ronnie's passing was that his wife passed away just six days after he did. My deepest condolences go out to their two kids.

I'm reminded of the controversy behind the band Redbone, who all claimed to be from Indian tribes. It was later revealed that they were actually just normal Mexican-Americans. Yet, I still love their music, and don't hold that gimmick against them. Buffy, however, has taken it too far for too long. Just my opinion.

That's a good song. Some of Dion's later material was really stellar. I'm not too keen on most of his blues records but he puts out a gem now and then, still.

Decca
Kapp
Little Darlin'
Certron
Ashley
Black Rose

Three of these were produced by Aubrey Mayhew.

The BBC infamously would not play songs alluding to any kind of religion, so a song with God in the title never stood a chance.

I work for The Home Depot as a cashier on the contractors side. For our Pro Xtra members,, we like to add job names to their receipts. Usually a street name or address, or customer name. One of my regular customers has recently been working a job by the name of Polk. You can guess what makes this come to mind for me.

I've loved her voice for as long as I can remember.

20 or more years ago, a British member of Ron Smith's old message board once sent me 4 of her old LP's that were British pressings. One of the albums was the Seekers' Come The Day lp. I still have that lp and treasure it.

And there's Catch The Wind by Donovan. There were two versions released, both by him, one on the album and a different one as a 45. The faster one with just the guitar was always better and is the hit that was played on the radio, his debut single.

The album version I think you're referring to here is the Epic album of his Greatest Hits. I believe there is a Hickory / Pye lp version that is similar to the 45 but is still a different recording. One has added strings but offhand I can never remember which is which.

I'd definitely be interested in hearing those tapes.

My two reel to reel players need repairs in order to get them working again. One of them is a Revox A77 that was owned by legendary producer Jerry Ross. It was purchased from his daughter.

I used to have a 45 by songwriter Alan Gordon credited to The Extragordonary Band or something like that, one side was called Beatles... I don't remember ever playing that side.

Then there's the 45 on the label I collect, Diamond Records, The Beatle Flying Saucer by Ed Solomon...

A similarly statured Four Seasons box set is in the works as well. I'd love to own these, but the cost of these is literally an entire paycheck to me. As we are living paycheck to paycheck, I'll never be able to afford these.

Roman, I believe Discogs lists the time given on the label, regardless of what the record actually plays. Both my long and short stock 45s of Indiana Wants Me have labels that show 3:35 on them, when the shorter version is about 30 seconds shorter.

WIWS is run by John and Chrissy Sellards. John, by the way, did the artwork for the Ronnie Dove cd we put out through Real Gone Music in 2014.
